Regular dishes on life in New Orleans, historic home renovation, raising kids, completing a PhD, travel near and far, global concerns, and health issues.
You know the story, right? International health... work all over the place... drag my kids around in sacks through villages in Central America... yadda yadda. I decided to go for another degree, so in 2004 we moved to New Orleans with no intention of staying. Then Katrina. And then *blink*blink* New Orleans is a completely different place and we just can't leave. Suddenly I'm on TV talking about immigrants and health and Paul is starting a company. Or two. His side is high-tech, mine is community health and our lives are yearly evacuation, regular celebrations, and nonstop work here, there, and everywhere. Our door is always open. I only ask that if you decide to go ahead and make yourself that mint julep, you make one for me, too.
We strive to make our life our argument.

Love the look!
And I love that you’ve gone to Cafe Luna to read. I feel like you should be wearing a necklace of butterbeer corks.

Kate looks STRIKING (and tan?).

I can’t get over how much she has grown since I saw her in March. I still think the whole weight thing is just a big growth spurt.
Jessi picked up Harry Potter at 7 a.m. on Sunday, and had friends over that night for an all-night read-a-thon. She finished on Sunday, and Millard’s been at it since then. Since I’m 4 books behind, I plan to just wait for the movie!

Kate looks (oddly enough) very grown up to me in this picture. I can’t pinpoint what exactly looks different. She just looks like a big little girl.

Wait for the movies!?!? Ack! That would be like spending your life reading about chocolate, smelling chocolate, maybe even touching chocolate… but never, ever, ever actually eating any. You can appreciate it, in theory, but without actually TASTING it… you miss out on so much pleasure. YOU HAVE TO READ THE BOOKS!
