I’ve volunteered to do face painting this Saturday for the kids’ school as part of “Art on Oak.” This is a regular event (traditionally held every last Saturday of the month) in the blocks of Oak Street from Carrollton to the River (which includes Abeona House). We are a few blocks from the big Oak Street attractions (Jacque-Imo’s, Maple Leaf Bar) so Emmy is contacting the Oak Street Merchants board for more information. If we get the go-ahead, the current plan is for Paul to juggle and me to face paint and get the kids involved so that we are part of the event.
The face paint hunt begins tomorrow (I’ve found some recipes, but for the cost of the ingredients and the reports that it’s nowhere as good as the premade paints, I’m going to go for the real thing.) But I need some ideas of what to paint! I think I should stick with small, quick, “cheek” designs. I can do decent butterflies and flowers… but what works for the boys? I know I need to be able to do a decent Fleur de Lis by Saturday… but what else? Any ideas? What other small, quick things can I draw on preschooler kids’ faces?

What about something pirate-like for the boys? Like a skull and crossbones? I’m sure Will would gladly donate his cheeks for your practice. Other thoughts – a quick, simple dinosaur? A soccer ball? A pumpkin (Halloween)? A rocket ship? Geez, this is harder than it sounds!

My little boy always picks the sailboat or the sun.

Baseballs, basketballs, footballs, golf balls (basically any kind of ball!), paw prints, Tulane or school logo/initials, rainbows, smiley faces, flowers, car, flags, ballons, hearts, star, moon, sun, kite, fruits, bees, ladybugs, lolipop, ice cream cone…

Maybe write “Geaux LSU!” in purple & gold since Saturday is game day and add fireworks in purple/gold … some of us from NOLA are LSU alumi. 🙂 Here is a link for some neat ideas:

Awesome ideas, thanks thanks thanks!!! I think I’ll draw out a little sheet and see if I can get kids to choose off of it. That way I can practice a couple of things. I wonder if I could find some temporary tatoos to give the kids in the case that I can’t draw what they want?
I’m also wondering if I can get face paint pencils versus brushes… or maybe use a make-up pencil to line draw and then paint inside the lines. Poor Will and Paul are going to have to put up with some trial runs Friday and Saturday…
Of course, this is ME… so Murphy’s Law comes into play. If I prep well and have all the supplies, nothing will happen. If I don’t prep all that well and am just barely cutting it with supplies, they’ll be people everywhere. Let’s see which way it goes…
