Today, Will started his pseudo-first-day at his new school. Abeona House isn’t ready yet — but the parents and teachers are — so those of us needing care have paired off to work together. Britt, one of the teachers we’ve hired at the school, is watching Will and another child, Aya, at Aya’s house two days a week. Aya is daughter to super cool parents — one of which is (like me) a PhD student in SPH&TM!
We bucked up Will all morning with excitement about going to school. It worked! He chattered about “School — yeeeaaahhh!” all the way there. When we arrived, Aya was out on their porch. One quick introduction and Aya and Will ran off to the back of the house. So much for tearful goodbyes or shy introductions, it was like they had known each other forever.
When I came to pick him up, he gave Aya and Britt big hugs AND kisses. Britt told me how impressed she was with Will’s sweet disposition — such a proud mama moment! He obviously had fun, as he was covered in playdough and crayons. He can’t wait to go back tomorrow!

Thanks — I hope it continues to go well, too! At least with these few hours a week, he will know a teacher and another student in his group once the real school is finally open!
