Will received two packages today via UPS — without sender or gift giver information. They were sent from Samsonite and contained two adorable turtle-style bags: the “Sammies” collection turtle mini backpack and duffle. (He already took a walk around the block with his backpack on, he’s that in to it.)
We want to thank someone for their thoughtfulness, but we don’t know who! So if it’s you, let us know so we can sing your praises!

You know the story, right? International health... work all over the place... drag my kids around in sacks through villages in Central America... yadda yadda. I decided to go for another degree, so in 2004 we moved to New Orleans with no intention of staying. Then Katrina. And then *blink*blink* New Orleans is a completely different place and we just can't leave. Suddenly I'm on TV talking about immigrants and health and Paul is starting a company. Or two. His side is high-tech, mine is community health and our lives are yearly evacuation, regular celebrations, and nonstop work here, there, and everywhere. Our door is always open. I only ask that if you decide to go ahead and make yourself that mint julep, you make one for me, too.
We strive to make our life our argument.

Holly-Wish I could take the credit for such a wonderful gift, but unfortunately I don’t think mine has arrived yet (shipped via UPS on 11/14). The weird thing is the tracking number is BLANK on my UPS receipt. Wish I had noticed that while still at the store! I’m holding out hope that it shows up eventually – hey, if it arrives in December, does it count as a Christmas present? If so, give it to Paul because I LOVE shopping for Will!

You guys were actually our first guess! He LOVES the bags — in fact, after his shower tonight, he asked for his backpack to cuddle before bedtime. They are wonderful!!!

Amy — we DID get the present! I’m so sorry, we got it on Tuesday, moments before we left for the holiday. It is great! We had actually just thrown out Will’s previous tunnel (either a cat or the post-storm heat got to it). We have the tunnel out and are considering using the tents as living quarters if we decide to renovate the back of the house… those things are huge!

We are so glad Will likes them, I had a really hard choosing toys because he is a little more advanced then other 2-yr-olds I know, and I figured the grandparents would have the toys covered. Then it suddenly struck me that maybe Will would like some bags for school and for overnights at the grandparents house. We chose the turtle ones because coloring looked like turtles 😛
After we bought the bags from ebags, we read your comment about UPS, and just like you said, we watched the UPS tracking go back and forth at Metarie…what a mess. We just checked on the fireman lunchbag and the last comment was that they noticed that it was just sitting there at the wrong distribution center, so hopefully you will get it tomorrow. No more shopping for you guys on sites that doesn’t use FedEx…kill me.

Shipping is such a nightmare here right now! We’ve learned that there are only 4 of the 16 UPS drivers. Paul has two packages (one was sent in October) that are still missing.
The luggage is *perfect* — Will absolutely loves it. They really do look like turtles! I can’t wait to see the lunchbag — it will be a great step up from the current bag (Paul’s old “proquest” sack!) and Will is very much into firetrucks lately. 🙂
