In our house, we are decidedly undecided about everything regarding the primaries. Because really, does it matter? Will our votes really sway the Louisiana electoral college to go blue? Seriously?
But if we could dream, who would we choose? No idea. In one of the first elections where I could vote, I remember discussing that we start a movement for all to join the Cherokee Nation, so that we could have Wilma Mankiller as President (I can’t take credit for the idea, as I probably picked up the idea in Ms. magazine or something). The point is, if I was that disenchanted during the Daddy Bush/Clinton years, there really isn’t much hope for me now.
But surprise: we have come to a decision on the next presidental election. If Mike Huckabee becomes President of the U.S., we are leaving the country. We can take Katrina, crime, awful schools and expense, but Mike Huckabee? No way.

Huckabee’s not nearly as bad as Romney. Huckabee actually realizes that (a) there’s a dwindling middle class, and (b) that ought not be so. He’s more populist. Now Romney, if you’re not white and high net worth, he doesn’t know you exist, unless he needs dry cleaning or his lawn mowed.
Don’t fear the Moral Police. They can only do so much damage before the Senate’s like, “No. Stop.” It’s the economic hitmen like Romney you should fear most. They can collapse the entire economy.

Well hell, I say stay. Stay and fight for those who don’t have the luxury of moving overseas. This is our country, too, so stake your claim.
I still maintain quite strongly that Romney is a far more serious threat to this country than Huckabee. Huckabee isn’t great, but he’s not as hell bent on collapsing the middle class as Romney. So he is not nearly as terrible as Romney. Economic threats are always more serious than religious ones. Moral stuff develops over time, and you can stop it. But economic stuff is much easier to get through Congress, and far more pernicious in effect. Reagan never overturned Roe v. Wade even when he had a Republican Senate, but he did get through a number of terrible tax policies and economic realignments through even a Democratic Congress.
You two are very fortunate to own homes in this country. Not hating, but I feel like I’m in a race against time to “get there” so that I can afford one too, before I’m priced out for good, the way things are going. So I cannot have Romney be president, even if it means dealing with Huckabee for four years.

We’ve decided the same thing, except our resolution involves both Huckabee and Romney.
