This is a more realistic comparison of what we’ve got in mind.
These aren’t exactly comparable (Toyota is $2-3K more and does not have the fancy options of the T&C) but this is the sort of thing we’re considering. We’d (okay, I’d) haggle with dealerships.
There’s also this. Which I’m going to try to see this afternoon.
(We would really like a Sienna… if we can stop dreaming about power doors.)

and how does your ‘buy american cars’ upbringing come into your decision?

My Dad seems to have partially recovered from our owning a Volkswagen, so we think he’ll eventually talk to us if we buy a ‘Baatan Death March’ vehicle (how he refers to all Japanese cars).
Now that so much of them are made in the States, he’s much more friendly to the whole idea. We looked at Hondas and Toyotas yesterday (dealerships were closed, we combed the lots ourselves — amazing how many cars are left unlocked!) and he was very supportive of the idea of both makes of car. (Although he did ask, “aren’t Toyota repairs very expensive?” I think it’s because he likes the Honda best, not because he’s holding on to hope of us buying a Chrysler.) 🙂
We also noted that on one of the lots, it specified the percentage of “foreign parts and labor” (15% Japan, 85% USA) on each new vehicle. Don’t know if that is done nationwide, but I would guess that sort of thing is important to folks in these parts.
