A jump in visits lead to me check out The Daily Kos, where someone posted a link to my blog (see the comments section). There are many gifted NOLA bloggers who write eloquently of our rebuilding. I often start to write about them myself, only to save the draft and never get back to it. Then I think that in the interest of not boring the couple of readers who follow this blog (e.g.: relatives who check to see pictures of my kids) I should just keep writing on the details of our family life instead and let the pros at it. The link from the ‘Kos made me feel like I should revisit some serious blogging, versus adding myself in with the multitudes of Mommy-bloggers trying to be as cool as dooce.

Holly, that was my sister. We’ve both been following your blog for a long time. We enjoy the stories about New Orleans and the kids and your photography. If I had seen the thread at Kos sooner I probably would have posted the link too, so I hope it doesn’t bother you.

Are you kidding? Your blog’s as relevant as anything out there: A firsthand, day-to-day account of family life and recovery in a city that was hit by the most significant American natural disaster of the century, that also has the additional significance of being exposing the social divide in America. That’s why Katrina will be in the history books and Andrew will just be remembered as a really bad storm.
I urge you to print out and keep a hard archive of what you’re writing, it’s a valuable record. It could easily be a book. Why do ya think I keep reading it? Sure I hope your kids are doing well, but I could’a found that out by sending you an e-mail. You don’t have to be a dooce or whatever. Dooce may be a nice lady, but she’s blogging about stuff that is ephemeral. She’s not leaving a valuable record about a major historical event that researchers can reference. Holly is.

And THAT is why you always get a big friggin’ box-o-love every year. Thank you for being so supportive and encouraging! It means a lot.

You have a great blog, and I’ve put it in my favorites. The pictures alone make it worthwhile, but then you add your wonderful thoughts, makes a big impact on the reader!
Keep blogging. This is important stuff.
