It’s official! My Dad, my Brother, and Paul are goin’ in the hole, the Big Hole, The Grand Canyon.
My Dad has been talking about doing this for years with “his sons” and they officially booked it yesterday. Weeks of research went into the planning. They finally decided on 8 days rafting the Colorado, through the entire Canyon, all the way to Lake Mead. They leave Las Vegas May 11th.
Dad is very excited.
I am all for the boys spending a week in the hole. My role as mother to young kids and as food source for Kate precludes my rafting abilities. But I do not think that us girls should necessarily miss out on an adventure. Any ideas? Anyone know of any kid-friendly resorts or itineraries that include kids activities (ie: structured babysitting while Mom gets a massage?) I think that would be a really good way to occupy ourselves while Paul is gone!

I hate to say it… buy… Disney Cruise!

I haven’t personally been on a Disney Cruise, but I’d have to agree with Randy. Many of my colleagues have done and raved about it – and these are people I would have never thought were the “Disney Type.” Will would eat it up…

I concur on the Disney Cruise as it’s a good way to have time away from the children.
I was listening to NPR the other day and heard about a summer camp for families. What a great idea too.
Another thought is the Hershey Spa. I know that the Hershey Spa in PA caters to giving parents some time away while the children are with quality “sitters” doing all sorts of activities. AND the Hershey Spa does a ton of massage, facial, wraps etc using CHOCOLATE. 🙂
One final thought is if you have a great “sitter/nanny” that would be free for a week or a few days to ask them to join so you have the free time when you need it.

Randy — I remember you and Katherine talking about Disney cruises for the kids before! Are you guys getting kick-backs?? 🙂
I have heard that Disney has a ton of cool stuff for kids. It’d be a bummer to go while the kids are still so young (Will would be 3 1/2 by then, Kate would be just over a year — just starting to walk.) We have big plans for the grandparents to take the kids to Orlando for the Mouse Experience when they are about 6 and 4 years old… at which point Paul and I will run for the border.
My Mom is not into the idea of going anywhere. She says she has her own spa here because of the pool in the backyard. So much for a fun partner!

Hosh, that is awesome news about the trip. I’m so excited for the boys (and I’m sure your dad is beside himself with excitement). I’ll poll my baby-toting friends and see what ideas they have for you! Miss you! xoxo julie

No kickbacks, I just saw it on the Travel Channel. And you can take the cruise without the normal disney theme parks.
