Baby Kate rocks out in her custom t-shirt, made by my friend Hongyun. I think it means “Happy Baby Kate” — but to be honest, I can’t remember!?

Regular dishes on life in New Orleans, historic home renovation, raising kids, completing a PhD, travel near and far, global concerns, and health issues.
You know the story, right? International health... work all over the place... drag my kids around in sacks through villages in Central America... yadda yadda. I decided to go for another degree, so in 2004 we moved to New Orleans with no intention of staying. Then Katrina. And then *blink*blink* New Orleans is a completely different place and we just can't leave. Suddenly I'm on TV talking about immigrants and health and Paul is starting a company. Or two. His side is high-tech, mine is community health and our lives are yearly evacuation, regular celebrations, and nonstop work here, there, and everywhere. Our door is always open. I only ask that if you decide to go ahead and make yourself that mint julep, you make one for me, too.
We strive to make our life our argument.

Hi Holly. Cute baby, and I’m impressed with your husband’s juggling. I learned how to juggle, but I never got past four balls. The pins are a little intimidating. Anyway, I look through the stats of visitors mostly to find other New Orleans bloggers. That’s how I found you, and I see you’ve honored me with a link, so I’ll reciprocate. I don’t know how much you lurk around the other local blogs, but it’s a really great community, and I have to say, an emerging community the likes of which has never really been seen before. It’s a very interesting little niche that is going unnoticed by the mainstream media, I think, because the reporters I know can’t take any more input. Still, we’re developing some personal ties that are really adding to the sense of community. I’d like to welcome you into that community if you choose to participate.

Thanks, Schroeder, for the link and invite! And YES — I’d love to be a part of any pro-NOLA blogging group, or any group interested in making positive, progressive change in our city. I will make it a point to lurk through your links and get connected.
If you can juggle four balls, you are a really good juggler!! May I convince you to stop by one of the NOLA Juggling/Unicycle Club meetings? Not sure if you saw the recent TP article about them, but they are hurting for members post-K. They juggle/practice every Saturday from 1-3 at the fountain (St. Charles side) of Audubon Park.
Thanks again for the message!
