Bathtime! Kate made bathtime interesting tonight by going through two outfits. She managed to poop (“gorpul”) three times, but did so after being washed up. She must have really liked the warm water; she got it three times. Her cord stump is hanging on by a thread.

You know the story, right? International health... work all over the place... drag my kids around in sacks through villages in Central America... yadda yadda. I decided to go for another degree, so in 2004 we moved to New Orleans with no intention of staying. Then Katrina. And then *blink*blink* New Orleans is a completely different place and we just can't leave. Suddenly I'm on TV talking about immigrants and health and Paul is starting a company. Or two. His side is high-tech, mine is community health and our lives are yearly evacuation, regular celebrations, and nonstop work here, there, and everywhere. Our door is always open. I only ask that if you decide to go ahead and make yourself that mint julep, you make one for me, too.
We strive to make our life our argument.

Paul says she looks like me. I have to agree, especially as and more blonde. She has a lot more hair than I had as an infant but looks like me in baby size and face. We’ve already got a little Paul running around, so it would only be fitting for me to have some likeness out there, too.

Holly–She is SO cute! Honestly one of the cutest babies I’ve ever seen. Kate’s birth story is amazing. I cannot even begin to imagine all you’ve been through. You are completely right: the fact that you and Kate (and Will and Paul) are healthy and happy is definitely the most important thing.
I LOVE that you have been using cabbage leaves for engorgement. We teach that in our parenting curriculum and I have suggested this to friends who look at me like I have 3 heads (maybe they don’t like the idea of taking breastfeeding tips from someone who has no direct experience in this dept). Knowing someone who has used them is a wierd sort of validation.
