At least with packages shipped to hurricane-impacted areas and especially to New Orleans!
Paul’s Mom sent a package two weeks ago for Will’s birthday… including birthday presents, party supplies, and other goodies. It has not arrived and UPS has been terrible: rude, unhelpful, deliberately misleading, and generally awful. It came to Metairie last Monday and although we called and asked to pick it up (several times) the bottom line is that no one knows where the package is… and tracking is not a guarantee that it will be found.
Today, we saw on Nola.com uptown forum that UPS is seriously being terrible to residents… all of the problems we’ve been having are being par for the course.
So, for us, USE FED-EX! UPS stinks. (Or consider sending packages to us to my parents house instead!)

Just curious…did my gift arrive? I used UPS, unfortunately. If so, please open it before the party – you may be able to use it on Saturday…Wish we could be there, Love, Aunt Amy & Uncle Kevin

Amy: Mom’s package arrived minutes after I posted this… apparently 20 or so phone calls and a blog blast can make miracles. Your package is still AWOL. 🙁

I promise you that you aren’t the only one with UPS problems … the last three items I’ve received from UPS have all required at least 2 irrate phone calls to the UPS offices to find out where my packages are. It’s happening all over the United States to unsuspecting people. 🙁 Down with UPS!

FWIW, I’ve never had problems with UPS around here. They’ve been great. So have FedEx and DHL.
The only problems I’ve had have been some damaged parcels–I don’t recall which carrier. The parcels were not packed very well by the shipper, so I don’t think it was the shipper’s fault.
Sounds like a real PITA, though.

I think that UPS is taking advantage of the citizens in the greater NOLA area… because they can. FedEx is fine and things are actually arriving within the 2-3 shipment schedules. UPS is just screwing with folks that have spent the past 4 months bent over.
