Trip Log: SATURDAY

Amy and Kevin’s Wedding Day!

WEATHER: After a cold and rainy rehearsal dinner evening, we were delighted to have a clear and beautiful day!

PAUL: Needed help through the day after his rough night, but managed to make it through the wedding!

GETTING WILL (and me) SHOWERED FOR THE DAY: Involved me and Will getting cleaned up together, alone. Paul was too sick to help. Will did not make things easy on me. He had a poopy diaper right before getting into the shower (no wipes for clean-up!), pooped while in the shower, and tinkled on Amy’s bathroom floor while awaiting getting into the shower. (I did a lot of cleaning in Amy’s bathrooms this weekend.) Will cried out from hot water in the shower (my mistake since I was trying to get him in so quickly for obvious reasons). He also managed to find Amy’s Avon Skin-So-Soft bottle and pour it all over himself after we finished in the shower (I let this one slide, after all, it makes a good insect repellent) and got his foot stuck, backwards, in Paddington Bear’s boot.

PROGRAMS: Got to bond with Janice, Amy’s matron of honor, when we went off to print programs. (Amy had planned on making them at home, but had printing problems.)

LOST IN FREDRICKSBURG: After doing programs with Janice, I went back out to find lunch for Will and I and stop and get a card and gift certificate present for Amy and Kevin. During the outting, the power went out in the huge shopping complex we were in. Traffic was a disaster without stop lights and we couldn’t find a place for lunch! Poor Will was in the backseat saying “Agua, Agua!” (he was thirsty) so I went to the back of a restaurant, found an employee, and asked for water for Will (in spanish). He brought me a water bottle and $1.50 later, Will had water. That crisis solved, we tried to leave… but couldn’t! We got terribly lost trying to find Amy’s house and had a good 45 minute tour of Fredricksburg before stumbling on the house… with none of us dressed, Will and I with empty stomaches, and only an hour left before we had to leave for the wedding!!

WEDDING: Was beautiful. It was at the University of Mary Washington (formerly Mary Washington College) in the new Alumni Executive Center. We had a great time and were so happy to be there for Amy and Kevin!

FUN FAMILY: Got to see Paul’s Uncle Bill, cousin Jen, and husband Chuck (we visited them in New Hampshire during our motorcycle trip in 1998). Paul’s other superneat Aunts and Uncles were also there, although cousins on that side of the family couldn’t make it. Also got to see lots of Paul’s family friends from his childhood (many of whose weddings we’ve attended) and their kids!

DANCING: Twice. Once while Will was asleep and once with Will.

BREAK TIME: Janice gave us a key to the room in the center where she and her husband were going to spend the night. We used the room during the end of the cocktail hour and beginning of the reception to nurse Will and get him to take a nap. This ended up being a great thing… Will slept long enough to allow us to enjoy a little bit of dinner and long enough to prevent him from being too overtired for the rest of the night.

FUN FOR WILL: Running. Everywhere. Favorite spots: fountains. The courtyard had a fountain where water squirts up out of small holes in the brick. Kids can easily walk right into the water… which is exactly what Will had his heart set on doing all night long. It was a miracle that we kept him dry!
